What If? – Clare

Containment was a limited series from the producers of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. I first heard about it from the actor who plays Dr. Cannerts — George Young, who I mentioned in a previous post.

The show is about an outbreak that occurred in part of a city in Atlanta. This causes one area to be cordoned off and families separated, with each side trying to get to the other and the government trying to keep them apart to ensure the safety of everyone else.

Considering all the virus scares the world has been getting, it’s scary to think of the possibility of something big could happen like this one day. The way it was spreading to people, the fact that no one (well, almost no one), was spared when you were exposed to the virus was alarming. I hope it never happens in real life but still, the whole “what if” of it all is something you cannot avoid thinking about when you watch the show.

Life in the cordon showed the best and the worst of human nature: people who were willing to help, people who were using violence to take what they needed and people who were determined to find answers and a way out. They were all people who just wanted to survive, but they all went about it in different ways.

I thought the show was showed promise from the beginning, but they kind of dragged things midway and sort of rushed the ending. I didn’t like how it ended, to be honest. Sure, the “bad guy (or girl, to be more specific)” was taken away and someone was found that had the antibodies that could help with a cure, but it was so open ended that you didn’t know what to think about it in the end. I was disappointed.

Still, I have to give a thumbs up to the cast, they were all very good. They all had a way of making you feel for their characters, even for the leader of the gang who took over the grocery store who seemed to care about making sure the pregnant teen was taken care of. I hope to see them in other shows in the future (although I won’t be waiting long to see Chris Wood again because he has been cast in Season 2 of Supergirl).

If I have been paranoid about germs before, I am even more paranoid now. I have 70% solution of alcohol that’s now always in my bag and I use it often (way too often if you ask my family). Better to be safe than sorry!
