The Little One’s Addiction | Clare
My nephew is at that stage where he already has his list of favorite programs on TV. He enjoys watching Mr. Bean, Tom & Jerry, Thomas & Friends and several Disney movies (he even likes Tangled!).
The difference with being a kid these days and being a kid from back in my day is that now you can watch these things on-demand. I remember having to wait for the specific date and time when my favorite shows would be on TV but now, my nephew can watch his favorite shows anytime he wants through his mom’s phone, my laptop/tablet or on TV as long as the flash drive with his saved programs is connected.
His latest addiction is watching the short episodes of Leo the Inquisitive Truck. The little one enjoys playing with cars and trucks that seeing a smiling truck makes him happy. He’s learning about colors and numbers at the same time too (as well as the English language — I’ve heard him copy a line or two while he watches). It’s always a good thing when programs are educational for children like him.
It’s adorable watching him get excited as he watches his favorite shows. For the adults, however, it can get nutty after a while. I think everyone at home has memorized the entire six seasons of Mr. Bean cartoons and can now sing along to Thomas and Friends’ Accidents Happen song because of the number of times he has viewed them on a daily basis!
The kiddie show overload may get a bit much, but for this kid, I think we are all willing to compromise to make him happy. I know I am.
