The Last Single Girl | Clare

One of the books I’ve finished recently is The Last Single Girl by Catie Quinn. It is part of her Brew Ha Ha series of books that include It’s in His Kiss, Worth the Fall, The Catching Kind and Love in Tune. I haven’t read the other books yet but considering that I enjoyed this first book, I just might read the rest (if I can find them, that is).

The story is about a woman named Sarah, who is pressured about being the last single girl in her group of friends who have all come back from Thanksgiving with their families with a boyfriend. She decides to tell people that she will be bringing a date to their New Year get together and then embarks on a search for the right guy with the help of an online dating site.

I always enjoy reading romance books with a funny side. While a part of me does enjoy romance novels that are always about men sweeping women off their feet, I still prefer reading about romances that come naturally, that do not necessarily have the whole feet-sweeping aspect. I tend to go for books like this more than other romantic novels.

The funny moments mostly come from the dates that Sarah goes on, all while being witnessed by the owner and assistant of the coffee shop which she decides is a neutral ground for her first dates with the men she meets online. I don’t want to give too much away but let’s just say that while some dates do start out well, some are outright disasters and none of them end up the way that she wants them to. As someone who has tried online dating, I feel for Sarah. Just the mere act of picking one she would like to meet face to face is difficult enough but for all of them to turn out the way they did with the goal she had in mind was just frustrating!

As with most romances, Sarah does find the man she could bring to the party, only it was not in the way she expected. Plus, as most of these stories go, that guy was right there all along. It was a cute story and I found myself adoring the coffee shop that Sarah went to (how I wish we had something like that here). It was as much a part of the story as the characters were and I loved that.

If you want to read a feel-good romance that has some hints of comedy and a lighter feel, this is a book that I can highly recommend. You won’t realize how much you enjoyed it until you realize you’ve finished it!
