Stories from a Country Girl: Wake Up Call
I am beginning to become a fan of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. I remember watching the reality competition The Hero and thinking this guy seems to be the real deal: he came off very sincere, encouraging and inspiring. It was no surprise for me when he followed up that show with Wake Up Call. A reality show where The Rock pushes a person or a group of people to realize the changes they need to make in their lives and gives them the opportunity to start doing them, Wake Up Call easily became a tearjerker for me. According to the show’s introduction, the concept was inspired by the life of The Rock. He had the odds against him in almost every aspect of his life but he rose above it and became the successful man that he is today. The show is his way of giving back by helping others achieve things they did not think was possible,
It is inspiring the way the show tried to help people realize where they were in their lives and helped them to reaffirm where they always wanted and needed to go. People tend to get so used to their comfort zones and because of that, they lack that extra step that they need to take to realize their full potential. It was also good to see that they did not make the situations too dramatic or staged to make it more media-savvy. It was about real people with real issues like anyone out there. The show did its best to show that if these people can make a change, so can everyone else watching (although having The Rock there for support would be much preferred because this guy is just so likable!). The show also made it a point to show that there were no quick fixes to getting things done. I liked that. It was all about facing the problem head on and making the hard work and sacrifices necessary to accomplish the goal of every individual. It focused on the work, the passion and the discipline to make things happen. Easier said than done, but the important thing was that IT CAN BE DONE. I have only seen eight episodes on AXN Asia and I have no idea if there will be more but I believe that this is a good show. We need more programs that show positive values and are not just about entertainment but also about giving back. I hope that there is more than one season of this show because I would love to watch some more inspiring stories in the future.
