Status: Single | Clare

My first impression of the movie from just the preview was that it would be funny, just not my kind of movie. I never intended to watch the film until someone lent me a copy of it to watch at home and I have to say, I really liked it.

The movie is basically about a single woman at 30 and her search for love and the right guy to spend the rest of her life with. She does this with the support of her friends, who provide the truly effective comic relief in this movie (they should do more of these ensemble cast comedies more often).

The script is well written and delivered well by the cast (although I find the fact that Jon Avila’s voice was dubbed to be very distracting … something about that voice was off acting-wise — couldn’t they have gotten someone who could dub AND act? What did they find wrong with Jon’s voice anyway?). I loved Paolo Contis as the gay best friend, he just plays the role with ease and without over-acting. The comic timing he had as a kid is still there even after all the dramatic roles he’s played.

Being more of a comedy than a love story, the leading men in the movie all play certain stereotypes that most women will encounter in their lifetime (the boy next door, the bad boy, the sophisticated player, the shy guy) and I liked how there were all portrayed. They were like caricatures of these stereotypes and I enjoyed how the director interpreted them to fit into the comedy.

Rufa Mae Quinto is really funny in the movie (but her clothes were so distracting, I felt like something was going to pop out every five minutes or so, hahaha) — I loved the scene where she was talking about how she was going to accept being single for life, I couldn’t stop laughing (because I can relate to it? hahaha!).

Jon Avila, who plays the guy who she ends up with, is not bad in this one. I just wish they still used his voice, particularly in that confrontation scene with the guy who plays his father. I think he acted well, but I didn’t like the way the dubber said his lines (it could have been better).

I was talking to my best friend about his movie and she told me the first time she saw the previews for this the first person that came to mind for her was me. I have to admit, the lead character has a lot in common with me (well, except that I don’t dress in those types of outfits)…I guess that’s why I enjoyed the movie so much. I even recommended it to my friends at work and they all told me they loved it and had a good laugh watching the movie too.

What more is there to say? I loved this movie. I loved the characters, the lines (kudos to the scriptwriter), the actors…it’s a good one. If you want to laugh and be entertained, I suggest you go out and get a copy of this movie.

I’ll leave you all with my favorite scenes from the movie (sorry if they’re not edited well, I was too lazy to do anything but cut and paste):
