On My Favorite Single Ladies and Settling Down – Clare
We are now very much looking forward to spending the rest of our lives together. Love is hard to find, so when you do find it, hang on to it! – Natasha Bedingfield
It wasn’t that much of a surprise to me when I read the news that Natasha Bedingfield got married recently. After all, she did announce her engagement on her blog last year. I am really happy for her! I agree with her that love is hard to find and I’m just glad she found it.
Natasha Bedingfield has always been my favorite female singer/songwriter. I’ve been a fan of hers since she came out with the song These Words and I’ve followed her career since then. I find her songs very easy to relate to. It’s like we have similar thoughts about certain things and I guess that’s her appeal as far as I am concerned.
In an US Magazine interview about getting married, she said something that I could imagine myself saying in the future:
I was single for a long, long time and I kind of went down kicking and screaming because I liked my single-ness, but he was someone definitely worth giving up being single for.
I can practically hear myself saying the exact same thing when I get married! I have this runaway bride tendency where I opt out of a relationship or potential relationship when I feel it could get serious, which I think is primarily because I enjoy being single too much to risk giving it up for someone who may not be worth it. I think that one day though, I will end up like Natasha Bedingfield and end up with that someone worth giving up being single for – and yes, I will go down kicking and screaming too.
In a related note, it has been announced that Calista Flockhart (another favorite) is now engaged to Harrison Ford. Good for her! They’ve been together for so long; it’s definitely time to settle down!
I’ve been a fan of Calista Flockhart since her Ally McBeal days and I’ve always admired the fact that she stuck to her guns about not rushing into marriage and not wanting to get pregnant out of wedlock (she opted to adopt instead). It’s nice to know that things are working out for her.
With my favorite female celebrities settling down it makes me wonder about my own fate. How long can I keep up being single? I know I love it but don’t get me wrong, I’d love to marry and have my own family one day, kids and all.
So when am I settling down? I’m still waiting for Daniel Henney to – as Beyonce Knowles said – put a ring on it, that’s for sure.
