On a Positive Note | Clare Henney

I went to visit my doctor a couple of days ago just to be sure that things were going fine with me in spite of my thyroid condition.  I’ve been feeling weird these past few weeks and I thought it was better to be safe than sorry so I went in for a checkup. Thankfully, the consultation ended up with positive results.  The nodules on my thyroid are shrinking as the doctor had hoped my medicine would do, which means I have no need for radioactive iodine, surgery or a much feared biopsy via fine needle aspiration (being scared of needles the FNA scares me more than the other two options).

According to the doctor all the other things I’ve been feeling were due to my eating habits, particularly from taking too much coffee and going to bed right after a meal.  Those things can be easily fixed with a change in lifestyle (although as a coffee addict, that would still be a bit of a challenge).

The doctor is giving me until February to take my medication before we shift it to something else that will help me get my metabolism back on track.  I can’t wait until that happens!  I’d love to work out again and actually see results for a change!  Hopefully, by that time the plans I’ve put on hold due to my thyroid problem can push through. The only downer is that my doctor wants to make sure that I don’t have any heart problems to deal with.  I have a history of it and he’s concerned about any effects this condition may have had on my heart.  He also noticed that I’m too stressed so he said that I should work on avoiding the situations that cause me too much anxiety.  I almost wanted to joke that he’s practically asking me to quit my job but I couldn’t bring myself to say it (I however have to admit that I am working on that). February will definitely be a big month for me because not only is it my birthday month but I’ll also find out if my doctor can give me a clean bill of health to start doing the things I want to do already (like relocating and getting a new job, for one).

I hope things continue to stay positive from here.
