Nature Trip – Clare

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, never let it fade away…

That song was playing in my head while I tried to calm myself down during a boat ride I was on yesterday morning. I had successfully avoided getting on that boat ride for work a number of times but I was determined in between my fits of hyperventilation that morning to get that ride done and over with. I had to conquer my fear of that ride or I’ll always wonder what it would have been like. I was still scared to death but since I had that song in my head to help me along, I felt at least some semblance of calm that got me through it. I don’t even know why it was that particular song that was in my head at the time — I just knew it was there and it was calming so that was enough for me. If I ever get the chance to join the Amazing Race Asia and get on a boat again, I’d be ready for it now!

I remember an episode of Oprah that said the power of the book The Secret was in the idea that knowing and focusing on what you want helps you to open your eyes to opportunities that could bring you closer to it. It may not always be opportunities you come into consciously but they will be there. I realized that during the trek we had after the boat ride.

One of the things I wanted to try for the longest time was to go hiking because that’s something that I’ve heard Daniel Henney enjoys doing. I’ve always wondered what the appeal was in that. Now I know: The dam we went to at the end of the trek was just so peaceful and beautiful. The site and the nice glow I got afterward made the long walk (and my damaged shoes) worth it. When I do get to meet Daniel Henney, I’d probably invite him to go on a hike to the same spot and tell him how he got me interested in doing that trek in the first place.
