My Thoughts on Tiktok | Clare Henney

Are you on Tiktok? I am. I don’t post anything and I don’t really follow that much of anyone, I just go there to check out the recommended videos whenever I feel bored or have nothing to do.

Everyone in the family had Tiktok before I did and sometimes I felt left out when they would talk about what was trending on the platform. I just couldn’t bring myself to sign up for the app because I had no idea how to use it. Even when I did eventually sign up, I didn’t post anything because I don’t think I know how to post content that is good enough for the app. Maybe I’m too boring or something like that, but I feel whatever I post might not be interesting enough to be on there.

I do have to admit that I am enjoying having an account because my friends keep sending me links to posts that feature BTS (which as you can tell from my other posts is a big favorite of mine). There are so much videos there from fans and I am very entertained by them. BTS Army are definitely a creative bunch!

I also love those quick home fixes/hacks that they have there along with those quick recipes that you can do even if you’re not a good cook. I find myself saving the videos that are useful but I realize that I am filling up my phone storage by doing that. Being a newbie on the app, I wonder if there is a way to repost the videos I like for myself just so I can save them for later? Also, is there a way to block certain accounts from showing up in the recommended videos? I have tried the button that indicates I’m not interested in the content but certain accounts still keep showing up and I am really annoyed by them. I have no idea if there is a way to block their posts to prevent them from being on my recommended videos.

Another Tiktok favorite of mine are the posts on affirmations. As I mentioned in some of my other blog entries, I have been meditating every morning and it has been helping me with my mental health. Seeing all these affirmations on Tiktok has given me ideas of what to add as affirmations whenever I meditate in the morning.

As much as I enjoy scrolling through the app, I do find that it can be a bit much for me. There’s so much content and you end up mindlessly scrolling over and over and before you know it, you’ve already wasted an hour or so just watching videos. It’s not exactly the best use of one’s time. I try to avoid using the app when I can but it’s not that easy. I just might delete the app from my phone soon if I feel it is taking up too much of my time.

I saw that Instagram has its own version of Tiktok called Reels. I’ve scrolled through it on the app but it seems people only post the same content that they put on Tiktok so I haven’t gone on it as much. Again, I don’t feel like I’m the type of person who can post content for something like that. I can’t really explain it, but I just don’t think that could ever be my thing.  It’s the same as my YouTube account. I have a channel but I have not posted anything. People are encouraging me to start vlogging because of this blog, but I don’t know exactly what to post when it comes to video content. Writing stuff is fine, taking photos is OK but video content? I have no idea what people would be interested in!

Are YOU on Tiktok? Have you ever tried the app? What do you think of it? Please leave a comment and let me know.
