Hate to See It Go | Clare Henney
One of my favorite shows is ending really soon. I’m so sad to see it go.
At first I wasn’t really sure if I was going to like My Binondo Girl. The part about her pretending to be a guy and having a guy fall for her as a guy just sounded way too much like Coffee Prince to me. After a while though, I started to see that it was different. It was a very Filipino story that was entertaining and endearing at the same time.
I found myself glued to the TV — and happy to find out that I had friends who were doing the same. We end up tweeting each other while watching the show. It’s like we’re on the same couch, talking as the show goes along. It’s been fun!
The characters started getting to me: I love the slowly thawing sweet/fatherly side of Papa Chen. I am gaga over Andy but at the same time frustrated about Jade (when she’s being stubborn about her feelings for Andy). I love Marina Benipayo’s portrayal of Menchu Wu (she’s my favorite character in the show…). I’m also a bit annoyed by Lola Amor and Onyx but I guess it goes with the territory because they are portraying roles that get in the way of my now favorite Jandy tandem. Love team aside though, I think this show is entertaining because it has a great mix of characters. The ensemble cast is a huge part of what makes it work, not just Kim and Xian.
With the show is coming to an end, I have been really happy that the writers have given followers of the show like me (and international news anchor Rico Hizon — I love his tweets about the show) so many moments to be giddy about between Jade and Andy. I loved that scene where they kissed when they almost got a divorce — kudos to Xian Lim for acting so well in that scene! I could really feel the intensity of what Andy felt for Jade. He was so good! I can’t wait to see what the show has in store now that it’s coming to a close. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they’d have a good ending. It’s definitely been a good ride for us viewers. I’m looking forward to similar programs and more projects for Kim Chiu and Xian Lim (heard a movie is in the works — I’m definitely looking out for that).
Congratulations ABS-CBN! It’s been a good ride, can’t wait to see how it all ends!
