Goodbye Guys | Clare
Crime Procedurals, or “Detective Shows” as my nephew calls them, is a genre that has always been a part of my to-watch list when it comes to the US Fall TV season. I have been loyal to several of these shows through the years that I have wondered how it would feel if these shows suddenly ended. There would be some sort of loss, most likely. Having two shows this season that let go of male characters who have been there from the beginning comes close to that feeling.
When I heard that Shemar Moore was leaving Criminal Minds, I felt my heart break a little. His interactions as Derek Morgan with Penelope Garcia (played by Kirsten Vangsness) have always been parts of the show that I have loved since the show started. Their friendship and the bond that these two have was something that I enjoyed watching. Knowing that I would never hear Derek say “Baby girl” to Penelope again…things would never be the same again.
Characters have come and go on Criminal Minds but I have not been that affected by them until Derek Morgan left the show. The same feelings come to mind now that Michael Weatherly, who plays Tony DiNozzo on NCIS, will be leaving as well.
NCIS has always been one of my favorites and has lasted so long that I feel that the main characters are regular parts of my life already. Having Tony leave NCIS would be even more heartbreaking than watching Derek Morgan leave the BAU.
There are rumors that the character might die at the end of the season. My goodness, that would be even more devastating! I can’t wait to see how they will deal with this loss on the show BUT I also don’t want to get to that point either. It’s going to be very sad, I just know it!
To Michael Weatherly and Shemar Moore, thank you for being part of my TV viewing experience all these years. It’s been some good TV watching you guys. I’m looking forward to seeing you (hopefully) in other projects.
Goodbye guys.
