Falling in Love With Josh Duhamel All Over Again | Clare

Finally, after a very long wait, I was able to watch the movie Safe Haven! I know I said that I wanted to watch it in the cinema when I first heard about the movie but I wasn’t able to (due to health issues and all the things that came along with it). Now that the DVD is out, I was finally about to see the film in the comfort of my own home.

To be honest, I think the movie was better than I expected. I remember talking to a friend about how the book would translate into a movie because of the “slight cheese factor” at the end but they managed to pull it off well enough to have me teary-eyed as it was revealed. Even the part of why “Erin” moved to Safe Haven was interpreted in a way that was better than the book. You would not figure out Katie’s exact back story in the film until it’s near the end unlike the book where you knew from the beginning what kind of life she came from.

I think this is my favorite Nicholas Sparks book-turned-into-film now. My ultimate favorite for a long time has been A Walk to Remember followed by The Notebook but now this movie is #1 for me. I’m happy with the cast. I heard that Carey Mulligan (The Great Gatsby) and Kiera Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) were initially considered for the female lead but after watching the film, I’m very happy with Julianne Hough as Erin/Katie. I wasn’t sure about her at first but she pulled off the role for me to the point where I can’t imagine Mulligan or Knightley being the lead.

The best part for me in this movie, however, would have to be Josh Duhamel. I’ve been a fan since Win a Date with Tad Hamilton and seeing him in a good romantic film after action films (Transformers) and rom-coms (When in Rome) is such a treat for me. I loved him as Alex in this movie. I loved it when he said the line:

If you stay I promise there’s no safer place in the world than with me. You don’t have to be scared… I love you… please stay.

After hearing him say that all I could think of was: when can someone like that say something to someone like me? And since there is no other way to express this completely without it being in Tagalog: Kilig na kilig ako sa scene na ‘yun. Sobrang kilig!

Another part of the movie that I loved was the dancing scene. Hopeless romantic that I am, I’ve always dreamed of slow dancing with someone I love and that scene that was both romantic and funny at the same time was just perfect! (Again, will I ever have someone I can do that with?)

I love how Josh Duhamel plays this manly man with a bit of a little boy in between. He is just right for the role. Even in that scene on the boat where he talks about dealing with his responsibilities in life and the loss that his family experienced, I love how you could see how tired he felt and how happy he was to have time to do and be something else with Katie.

Just trying to keep it all together, really. But today with you, this is probably the first time I’ve looked up.

When he said those lines, I really felt for the character. I know how it feels to have so much on your plate and just keeping your head down and trying to keep it all together. I can really relate to that.

My goodness, this is a movie that I can watch over and over again not just for the romance of it all but also for Josh Duhamel. I mean really, I can stare at him all day if I could! Fergie is so lucky!

More romantic movies like this for Josh please!!!
