Clare Henney: TGIS on Fox Filipino

Finally, after years of not having it on air, Fox Filipino has brought back one of my favorite TV shows from my teen years, TGIS. I remember conversations between me and my sisters wishing that shows like this could be re-aired instead of having them rebooted on TV. I was so excited when I saw the commercial on Fox Filipino that announced that they were bringing back the show starting this month. It seems I’m not the only one who wanted to see the show again. I have friends who have gone to the point of asking their cable service to include Fox Filipino just so they could watch this. On the first evening when this show was aired again, my Twitter timeline was filled with tweets about the show. Everyone was enjoying their look back on the 90s and watching the show all over again.

One thing I was surprised to see during the show was that the start of it was a lot different from how I remembered it. The opening credits were different, not all the characters were there at the beginning and it was a bit boring at first. Still, I can’t help but watch because it brought me back to the days where people called each other through landlines, when there was no social media to keep people busy even when they were hanging out together and life was a whole lot simpler.

So many memories keep flashing back when I watch the show.  It’s so fembarrassing because one of those memories involving Onemig Bondoc (who plays JM) was even retweeted by his wife! TGIS was aired for four years so there are a lot of episodes to look forward to.  I can’t wait to watch my favorite Kiko moment where Red Sternberg’s character is devastated about the loss of his girlfriend.  I thought that was a great acting moment for the guy considering he’s often the comic relief of the show. Anyone else out there watching TGIS again?  What part of the show are you looking forward to seeing again?  What do you love about watching the show again now?  Leave me a message and let me know!
