Clare Henney: PDAF Thoughts

I know the PDAF scam is an issue that most people have already talked about and has been in the news too many times now that people may feel that everyone has said everything that needs to be said about what they feel about the whole thing. Still, I feel like saying my piece. It saddens me to think that the people who the majority have entrusted with running our government are being accused of abusing their power and using our hard-earned tax money to fill their own pockets. I feel abused to think that the large dent in my salary could have possibly gone to maintaining the lifestyle of people who are manipulating documents to move funds that could have been placed to serve and make this country a better place to live in. Hearing about how much money is involved, I couldn’t help but wonder how much of that money could have been placed in having better public hospitals/health care for the less fortunate, better public schools, better roads (and drainage). As a taxpayer, I don’t mind paying and doing my share but I would like to see it being put to good use and this PDAF scam thing has just proved otherwise.

More than anything, I am appalled that people have the ability to do something like this – to take advantage of other people in such a large scale for their own personal benefit – without any fear of retribution not just from the law but from God.

All the people accused quote the Bible these days and swear in God’s name about their innocence.  I don’t know what to feel.  I know that until proven guilty, they are still innocent.  But if they are guilty and are using God’s name in vain, aren’t they not in the least bit scared of what God thinks of what they have done?

10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. – 1 Corinthians 6:10

I hope that whoever is responsible for this will be brought to justice and that no one will be used as a scapegoat to resolve the issue.  I hope that this won’t be brushed off by other issues — while some issues may become greater than this one in the future, I hope that this will still be resolved. I hope that our country can be a better country and that with this issue coming out something can be done to change the way things are being run in the government and that ultimately it will be good for everyone.
