Clare Henney: May 2009
I’ve been back to my love for listening to music lately. All the long road trips for work have given me a lot of idle time stuck in traffic so I’ve been listening to a lot of new music on my iPod. Apart from songs from American Idol Season 8 Top 3 contestant Kris Allen, I’ve also been listening to a lot of other things. For now though I’ll share a few R&B songs that have caught my fancy.
First up, Chocolate High by India Arie featuring Musiq Soulchild. I saw this while I was flipping channels and stopped at Mnet, one of those South African channels. I like how laid back the sound is on this one, as well as the lyrics. I’ve never liked India Arie before, but this song is not bad.
It’s Yours by J. Holiday is another new song I’ve been listening to. I find the song sexy sounding (and the video is too in some parts). It reminds me of those old days when male R&B artists singing slow songs like this were so popular — I think that was back in my college days (but let’s not talk about how long ago that was).
Another song I’ve been enjoying lately is Freeze by T-Pain featuring Chris Brown. I stopped listening to Chris Brown’s songs when I heard about what he did to Rihanna — I was completely turned off — but darn it, I can’t help but like this song. It’s just fun and I can’t help but bob my head to it when I hear it playing. I just love it…I officially make the excuse that I can like this because of T-Pain.
Then there’s Jennifer Hudson…I don’t like her first few songs but If This Isn’t Love is so beautiful. I love the melody, the lyrics and of course, the way she performs it. It’s not over the top and for me,even if I always proclaim that I haven’t been in love in a while and can’t remember what it feels like, when I hear this song it’s like I can remember how it feels. I guess there’s still hope for me feeling it again someday huh?
But I digress…there’s one more song that I have to share so here goes nothing: Long Distance by Brandy. I’ve been a fan of this girl since her first CD and I’m just glad that she’s back doing what she does best. I love this song because it reminds me of Daniel Henney (and how our long distance is killing me — hahaha). It also speaks of loneliness and sometimes even if I am enjoying my single blessedness, I do feel the loneliness that this song talks about because I was once upon a time in a long distance relationship. It’s not easy. After all, “there’s only so many songs that I can sing to pass the time…“
Enjoy the music people. If there are any songs you think I’d like, please leave a message and let me know.
