Clare Henney: I Liked The Original Better
One of the shows that I enjoyed watching as a child was 21 Jump Street. A series about a group of undercover police officers who pretend to be high school students in order to solve and/or prevent crimes that are happening in schools, the show’s most famous alumnus is Johnny Depp.
When I first heard that the show was going to be made into a movie, I initially thought that it was a good idea. After hearing good feedback online from some people, I wanted to see it. When I finally did, however, I was very disappointed.
I did not like the movie at all. I thought it was awful! I’m not a big fan of slapstick comedy and stereotypes so the movie wasn’t that entertaining for me. I kept watching and hoping that the movie will get better in the end but it didn’t. It’s just not my kind of movie. The only good part for me was the cameos of the original cast of the TV series (including Johnny Depp, of course). There are some things that should never get remade. Or if they are, I don’t think that they should change the genre. Turning the TV idea into a comedic movie did not sit well with me. Not even the fact that Channing Tatum is in this one could do it justice. It was just silly, immature and shallow. Yes, I know it’s meant to be funny but I just didn’t get it.
