Clare Henney: Flashpoint
It was during a sleepless couple of nights when I was sick that I discovered this show. Kept me company through a number of nights when I was feeling awful and had no one to talk to. Flashpoint is a series about a Strategic Response Unit in Canada. Mostly they deal with cases that involve extreme danger like bombs, hostage situations, kidnapping, etc. It’s a Canadian show but Amy Jo Johnson, who was on Power Rangers and Felicity is a familiar face who is on the cast of this series.
It’s refreshing to watch a show that don’t star American actors considering that most of the shows I watch are American ones. Now faces for a change. I like the way that the show presents the stories without too much violence and with the right mix of drama about the personal lives of the characters involved. The love angle between Amy Jo Johnson’s character and David Paetkau’s is a good diversion when there’s too much action but I like that they don’t dwell on it too much.
From what I’ve read on Google there has been four seasons so far and the fifth season will be the last. It’s a good show, too bad that it won’t be running longer than I think it should. Then again, if it means that the show won’t — as they say — jump the shark, then so be it.
