Clare Henney: December 2010
There has been a lot of talk in the country about the Reproductive Health Bill and about whether or not the government should implement it. According to Pro-Life groups, we are taking away the right of life from unborn children by having this bill. Pro-RH Bill groups, on the other hand, argue that it is something that needs that needs to be done to stop the overpopulation of the country.
Personally, I am pro-life in the sense that I do not believe in abortion. Once a child is conceived, it has a right to life just like everybody else. We can’t just take away a life just because we’re not ready for it or it wasn’t planned. If we were “mature” enough to conceive the child, we should be mature enough to take responsibility for it. I know there are other cases, like those children conceived from rape or children who have medical conditions that the parents find out about while they are still in the womb. I’d still say give these kids the fighting chance that they deserve. They never did anything wrong. It’s not the easiest thing to do but it is the humane thing to do. If we can go up and stand for the ethical treatment of animals, why can’t we do the same for our children?
