Clare Henney: Care for a Dip?

The heat and humidity from summer 2011 has irritated me so much that I kept saying that I wanted to sit in a small children’s pool filled with ice and water. My sisters used to laugh at the idea saying I was too old to be in a kiddie pool but I told them that maybe we could have some sort of makeshift curtain in front of the garage to cover the pool behind it so that I could cool off without having the neighbors see me taking a dip.
I ended up having the curtain and the pool…no ice in it though (I wish!). I bought an Intex pool from SM’s Toy Kingdom mid-April for around P2, 500.00 (it was on sale). It’s 8 feet in diameter and 3 feet in height. It also has a convenient cover so that you can leave the pool overnight for use again the next day. I LOVE it!
I have to admit: it’s such a pain to fill up the pool though since it is huge so we’ve decided to just drain and refill weekly and just mixing some chlorine every other day to keep it clean. It saves on water that way too.
The pool is such a big relief to have considering how hot and humid the summer has been. Sometimes I feel like I just want to stay there all day (and yes, have a couple of bags of ice thrown in if possible). It’s crazy how hot this summer has been considering that PAGASA said that we were supposed to be experiencing La Nina – it’s much worse this year compared to 2010 when we had El Nino! I hope that it doesn’t get any worse because at this rate, we’d need to have the air-conditioning on 24/7 to survive the heat and that just isn’t practical (or good for the environment).
My niece loves the pool and has had several cousins over for a swim in the past month. Even my mom and my sister have taken a dip in the pool along with me because of how hot it has been. I love that it helps me cool off without having to go to a resort (which I do not have the time for lately) or turn on the AC. It also reminds me of the kiddie pools we’ve had during my childhood — those were always fun times for me back in the day.
It has started to rain already so I guess we’ll be packing the pool up soon and wait for next summer to use it again. I’m sure it’ll be put to good use again in 2012. This was definitely P2, 500.00 well spent for me this summer. Intex is a good pool, we’ve never had issues with leaks or anything of the sort. Definitely worth the buy.
