Clare Henney: August 2013
If anyone remembers my older post about aiming to read 100 books in 2013, this post is my continuation of that blog entry. It’s been four months since my last reading total of 19 books. The total is now 40. Yes, in the last four months I read 21 books! That’s three books better than my first four months of reading! Here’s a quick review of the new set of books I’ve read:
Due to the prodding of my sister, I read the Dream Man Series by Kristen Ashley. The series involves the romantic stories of women involved with four men who all know one another: one man is a leader of a motorcycle gang, one is a police detective, one an undercover DEA agent and a for-hire commando. All the men are seriously alpha male types who encounter women who also hold their own when they are with them. Yes, the whole alpha male thing is appealing but sometimes I feel that they go over the line — I don’t know if I’d really ever fall for a man like that. Still, most of the books are entertaining reads — even if I did not really like the male leads all that much (well, except for the guy in Law Man that is).
After reading the Dream Man books, I moved on to two books from another series: Trying to Score and Empty Net by Toni Aleo. Part of the Assassins series, these two books are about two different professional hockey players and the relationships they have with two women (who are, incidentally, sisters). Trying to Score was a bit annoying, since the girl was really too stubborn for her own good and at points I just wanted her to get over herself and get it all over with. On the other hand, I thought that Empty Net was better. The characters were more developed than the other book so the whole story was more interesting for me.
