Clare Henney: April 2012

One of the things that I’ve always loved but usually never have the luxury of time to do is read books.  I remember being a kid and just sitting at home reading until the sun went down.  I’d be so engrossed in a book that sometimes I don’t stop to turn on the light until someone else does it for me or if I can’t see the page anymore. Lately with all the long commutes that I do to watch football and to see my doctor for my monthly checkups I’ve had time to catch up on my reading.  I recently finished two series of young adult novels: the Fallen and Blue Bloods series.  Both books, as with typical young adult novels, deal with young love.  In typical young adult book trends of this generation, it deals with love between a mortal and a supernatural being. In the case of these books, angels.

Fallen is a series of four books by Lauren Kate that tell the story of teenager Lucinda Price and the cursed love she has with Daniel Grigori, a fallen angel.  In the series Lucinda learns about her fate as a soul that continuously reincarnates and falls in love with Daniel, only to die over and over again because of their love.  She travels to the past to understand what their love was about in the hope of breaking the curse but in the process finds out the plan of Lucifer to erase the past and start over from the time of the Fall, which she, Daniel and the other fallen angels must now try to stop.

The last book of the series won’t be released until June this year so I have no idea how the story will go in the end.  The series has an interesting take on good and evil and the fine line in between.  It’s very similar in a lot of ways to the Blue Bloods series and until I see how it ends, I can’t really decide for sure which set of books is better.  I heard Disney optioned the rights to the series so I’m guessing for them this was the better one.  Right now though my preference is for the Blue Bloods series.
