Asian Orlando Bloom, Anyone? – Clare

I remember watching Jacky Chan movies in the cinema with my father when I was still a young girl. He was such a big fan and kept explaining to me how this was a guy who could do stunts that a lot of other guys could not. It was no surprise that he watched the original Rush Hour movies when they were released as well.

It was for that sentimental reason that I decided to check out the Rush Hour TV reboot (currently on iFlix here in the Philippines, in case anyone’s asking). I actually liked the first episode, but things went downhill from there. I don’t know what it was exactly, but something just didn’t work.

Maybe it was because no one could do Chris Tucker better than the original, and let’s face it, Jon Foo was no Jacky Chan. He lacked the humor and light personality that the Chan has, and it just made the show different. Maybe it was meant to be that way because it was a reboot, but it just did not feel right to me. It felt like a funny guy-straight man combo compared to the original where both of them were funny.

I’ve watched the entire (and only) season and it was OK. It didn’t make me go wow but it was not completely boring.

My favorite part in the series and probably the real reason I kept watching Jon Foo was because I thought he was cute. He looked like an Asian Orlando Bloom –and it was so funny when they started calling him that on the show! I mean, look at him! He does look like an Asian Orlando Bloom (without the revealing paddling pics) right?
